After a couple of successful real world test sorties in Ohio and Kentucky, the TWOA’s TR7 head lifting tool is ready for rental by our membership. Okay, so what is it? The Head Honcho is a tool that allows the user to remove the head from a TR7 on which the angled head studs have corroded in place without damage to the head. The tool bolts to the head at the cam bearings with tie bars to the exhaust flanges, and presses down on the stuck studs with a set of jacking screws, thereby lifting the head off the studs.

                                                  Picture
Here’s how the program will work: The user will contact me by phone or e-mail to see if the tool is available or to get on a waiting list if it isn’t. When your turn comes, you will put down a deposit of $250, preferably by Paypal, and we will ship you the tool. Why so much? We want our tool back and this is what it will cost us to replace it. The rental term will be 30 days, but we encourage people to get the tool, use the tool and send it back so we can move it along to the next user.
Shipping will be by FedEx Ground/Home, so we can ship only to physical street addresses, not PO boxes, APOs or FPOs. At this time, we can ship only to the lower 48 states as we haven’t worked out shipment to Canada or overseas. Packed up, the tool weighs almost 40 pounds, so shipping is not a trivial matter.
A return label will be included with the shipment, so all you have to do is pack up the tool and take it to the local FedEx location. Once we have the tool back and inspect it for damage or missing parts, we will refund your deposit less the $40 rental fee and the cost of shipping both ways.
The Head Honcho is a project of the TWOA and is for the exclusive use of our members. It’s one example of how the club adds value to membership by taking on projects too big for most individuals. Other projects include the EFI feedback monitor described below. Want a Head Honcho of your very own? We can supply the drawing. Are you outside the Continental US? Take heart, tools are now being built in Germany and Australia. Please contact me if you have any questions. Let the Head Games begin!

Fuel Injection owners rejoice. Always wondered how close your car is to the "ideal" mixture at idle and how to adjust your air flow meter? There are two ways to do it, one is with an exhaust gas analyzer or the other is a special tool you can't find anywhere (see image from the ROM right). TWOA has gone a step further and we've built that tool and it's now available for "rent" for a small fee. We've built that tool shown in the ROM except instead of just 4 LEDs per injector bank, we've got a string of 10 on each side, one for the RH bank, one for the LH bank (the TR7 only uses one bank but we're still working that out). The "gizmo" plugs into the mixture monitor port dangling near the ECU---the feedback control voltages can be measured there---and it tells you how close you are to the ideal mixture. It only requires working O2 sensors and the feedback circuits to be alive and functional. Setting things up is a breeze. It's now available for "rent", full instructions included. Write or call us if you're interested in getting your hands on this thing: tencate@mac.com. Cost is $10 plus shipping costs (USPS Flat Rate Small box) both ways.
